The percussion section, including a drum kit (Artie Storch) dead center near the podium, did colorful spot-on work all night.
Review of Oakland Symphony performance of West Side Story by Steven Winn, SF Classical Voice

New Century Chamber Orchestra: Carmen Suite for strings and percussion (Bizet, arr. Shchedrin.)
Originally for timpani and four percussionists; my friend Galen Lemmon arranged it so he and I covered most of it ourselves!

The above set up is a part of it.

Review:
"The real technical stars of the evening, however, were the two percussionists, Galen Lemmon and Artie Storch. The Wikipedia entry for the ballet includes an enumeration of all the necessary percussion gear and how it should be distributed among four players. The ways in which Lemmon and Storch managed all of it without any additional assistance emerged as a marvelous choreographic effort.... Always in proper balance with the NCCO strings, this was musicianship of the highest standard and could not have made for a better season opener."   SF Examiner
